About
I am currently in the first year of a PhD within the InfoComms department at Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester, UK.
My thesis (New Media and Academia: Politics, Philosophies, Participation) will explore how digital media, new media, and online forms of scholarly communication and participation are viewed within distinct academic disciplines. The work will be based on an in-depth understanding and analysis of philosophical, political, and sociological theories of participation; models and research into the arrangement and characteristics of academic disciplines; and writings about/typologies of the essential nature and features of new and digital media.
Methods employed for data gathering will include Focus Groups, interviews, the application of Semantic Differentials, and a wide-ranging lit review.
It is hoped that an ontology and model of academic participation with new media – and an enriched understanding of what new media means for scholars – can be proposed at the end of this research.
